Kindy at MC!

… a journey of adventure and possibilities

Welcome to Kindy 2023 at Macquarie College!

Hello and welcome to Macquarie College. Finding the right school for your child to commence Kindergarten at is a really important decision for your family. We want to support you to make the best choice for your child. We believe that the research based Kindergarten program at Macquarie College, along with our highly experienced teachers, offers a solid foundation for our little friends as they begin their learning journey.

We would love for you to have a look through this page and perhaps join in on one of our small group tour mornings to start your child’s educational journey at MC.

MC is a leading faith-based school in the Newcastle and Hunter Region for students from Preschool through to Year 12. As Kindergarten is a time of discovery and learning—we provide a wide variety of innovative opportunities that stimulate and engage.

Educational approach

Our Kindergarten program focuses on developing core literacy, numeracy and cognitive skills in a fun, play-based setting.

Kindergarten students enjoy Bible stories and songs that share God’s love. We adopt pedagogical approaches, including direct instruction and open-ended investigations, to meet the individual needs of each student. We embrace movement and play, with Kindy learners wearing their sports uniform every day.

Research tells us that play-based learning stimulates and enhances students’ physical, social and academic development. Outdoor play, movement activities and hands-on experiences through play-based learning results in growth mindsets such as trial and error, teamwork, problem solving and creativity. Our young ones are so engaged with the fun activities throughout their day, that learning and success come naturally.

Frequently Asked Questions

Deciding whether or not your child is ready for school is a big decision! School readiness includes many different skills and behaviours and is often mistaken for a child’s ability to read or write. In fact, when we are looking for children ready to start school, we are looking for those who have good social skills, emotional maturity, good language skills, well developed fine and gross motor skills and a certain level of independence.

If you are unsure if your child is ready to start kindergarten, please call our school registrar Sarah on 02 4954 6222 to have a chat.

We want to work with you to ensure your child starts their formal educational journey at the right time.

The annual fees for each student at Macquarie College are structured as an all-in-one package that includes Tuition, Excursions, Camps, all Student Services Fees, Levies and Charges. For more information please take a look at our Fee Calculator

Kindergarten at MC is a play-based program that entails intentional learning through exploration, problem-solving, collaboration and inquiry skills.

Our primary focus in Kindy is developing competency in literacy and numeracy. Our literacy lessons are based on InitiaLit which uses explicit teaching and is completely research-based. We provide hands-on maths experiences allowing students to inquire, explore and problem solve. Every day, we allow Kindy students an opportunity to learn through outdoor play and have movement breaks every 45 minutes.

Yes! You are most welcome to talk with your child’s teacher about your child’s progress or any concerns you may have. All families have access to their teacher’s email address and through SEQTA – our internal parent communication platform.
