Kinetic Sand Safety Update
Dear Macquarie College Families,
We would like to provide an update regarding the recent national recall of several coloured sand products, following advice released by the NSW Government and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
While the specific products identified in the recall were not used in any of our Junior School learning spaces, we did identify that we had a small quantity of coloured sand from the same supplier. Out of an abundance of caution, we have acted promptly and in full alignment with the safety guidance provided to schools across NSW.
Actions we have taken at Macquarie College
- Immediately removed the coloured sand supplied by this company from all learning spaces.
- Followed NSW disposal guidelines, securely double-bagging the product and placing it in kerbside red-lid bins as recommended.
- Cleaned all areas where the sand may have been used, using wet-wipe cleaning methods, with all cloths disposed of.
These steps have now been fully completed in accordance with the guidance sent to all schools.
Our commitment to safety
The wellbeing of your children is our highest priority. Although the products we had on site were not part of the official recall, we felt it important to take every precaution. We will continue to monitor updates from AISNSW, SafeWork NSW, and the ACCC to ensure we remain fully informed and compliant.
