During the term there has been an ongoing collaboration between the Preschool and Senior School Design Lab. The preschool students had been using yarn tools to weave and make pom poms – an activity that builds hand strength and improves coordination and fine motor skills. The preschool staff had a problem though – the tools they were using were too small and they did not have enough for the interested children.
The Senior School Design Lab staff put a call out to students and within a few weeks they were able to redesign, personalise and laser cut 70 yarn tools – one for each preschool child. Pom pom production is now in full swing and the preschool children are working collaboratively to produce a pom pom artwork.
