Year 10 Exploring Future Study & Careers Pathways
Macquarie College recently welcomed 19 local professionals from a variety of industries to talk to our Year 10 students at a Careers Day.
As part of the students’ ongoing preparations for HSC and future career choices, they heard about the journeys that our guest professionals have taken in choosing their careers and what study options were required. Students also heard about the ‘realities’ of every day life in different industries including:
- Engineering
- Building and Construction
- Information Technology
- Allied Health (nursing, general practitioner, physiotherapist, pharmaceutical, personal trainer)
- Veterinary
- Entertainment and the Arts (musician, author, film industry)
- Hospitality
- Services (police, fire, armed forces) and
- Professional services (law, education and accounting).
The speakers hosted two sessions, with students able to choose from which panels they would like to interact with across their morning and explore these exciting careers options. It was an incredibly successful day with students asking questions and reflecting on, or reevaluating preconceived ideas about, different careers and roles that support the community in vastly different ways.
This Careers Day (Monday 20th) was held in conjunction with the Year 10 Subject Expo (Tuesday 24th). Students and parents attended an Information session in which the HSC Subjects on offer at Macquarie College were discussed and study options explored for a range of career goals.
where they are to choose their Higher School Certificate study options. By giving them access to the reality of different careers, students will hopefully be able to be more informed when looking at ideas for their future.
