FLAG Week Culminates in Community Celebration
Junior School FLAG Week: Monday 16 – Saturday 21 May 2016
Junior School students had a fun week learning about God during our annual FLAG Week. The theme was “Hometown Nazareth – Where Jesus grew up as a kid”.
Guest speaker Pastor Alex Green (Wallsend SDA Church) took the character of a carpenter in Nazareth village, as he shared stories from the Bible from a first- person perspective.
He taught us about: the fact that Jesus is God, the King of Kings, our deliverer, Saviour and our friend. He also explained how we are all part of the family of God, and the honour of being a child of God.
Each day I explained something historical about what life would have been like for a boy in the first century village of Nazareth – the food Jesus would have eaten, games kids would play, the Synagogue, how clothing was made, and life on the farm. As archaeologists have discovered that children played with glass marbles in that area, a highlight of the week was a “Marbles Tournament” on Friday lunch-time.
The week finished on Saturday with a special “Celebration Service” at the Church attended by almost 500 people, followed by lunch kindly provided by Church members.
Alex reminded us of God’s reassuring words in the Bible
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
Isaiah 41:10
