Match Report Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup
Selina McCloskey (Year 9M) can now lay claim to the title of Australian Country Champion after her NSW Waratahs team defeated South Australia in the final of the championships in Albury in the January holidays.
The Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup is a tournament played over 7 days, with 700 players competing from state teams from New Zealand, Tasmania, Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales.
Selina was part of the under 16s girls’ side which met the SA Magpies in the decider, having previously lost to their opponents, early in the pool rounds of the tournament.
They staged an epic in the final, with scores locked at 25-all at half-time, before South Australia ground their way to a two-point lead at the final change. At that point, NSW flicked the switch, storming home with a 24-13 last quarter to claim the match and the championship with a 66-57 win.
