Senior School STEM, Engineering & Technologies

Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) skills are essential to tackling contemporary and future industrial, environmental and medical challenges.

Macquarie College engages students in investigative learning experiences, creative problem solving and technical innovation in our Year 9 and 10 STEM elective and through integrated STEM experiences across the Senior School curriculum. Students employ traditional and emerging technologies—including coding, engineering, and computational thinking—through project-based and team learning approaches in makerspace environments, equipping them for future opportunities.

Year 10 Students Modelling Environmentally Sustainable Practices

Congratulations to Jamie T (10M) who recently won the Geography Department’s Catchment Detox Competition.

Jamie achieved a score of 748,767 to win a movie voucher. Second prize with $10 canteen cash was D’Arcy R (10M) close behind on 731,749.  Catchment Detox is an online game based on a model developed by the CSIRO Division of Land and Water and e-water Co-operative Research Centre, where you’re in charge of the whole catchment. Players decide what activities to undertake – whether to plant crops, log forests, build factories or set up national parks.

The aim is to avoid environmental problems and provide food and wealth for the population. Managing Australia’s waterways is a huge challenge with climate change, increased demand for water and environmental problems putting our rivers under stress.

The Catchment Detox game gives an idea of just how difficult it is to manage a river catchment. Well done Jamie and D’Arcy.

WOSE 2017 Proves that Love Does …

The Senior School celebrated WOSE (Week of Spiritual Emphasis) between 20-24 March, with the theme “Love Does” providing the focal point for this special week of worship, reflection and personal growth.

Throughout the week students explored love.  What is love? Who is love for? Why is love important? Is God’s love real?
