A fully qualified music teacher cares for the music of Junior School. Every class has a 45 minute music lesson each week, following the NESA syllabus. In the music class, students are involved in performance, listening and composition/improvisation, with an emphasis placed on practical activities where children can learn through participation.
On top of the music curriculum, there are a number of co-curricular groups that are run in the Junior School. These include:
- Year 2 Choir
- Year 3/4 Choir
- Year 5/6 Choir
- Primary Vocal Ensemble
- Concert Band
- String Ensemble
- Chapel Band
Each of these group rehearse on a weekly basis and students perform at events such as Chapel, Church services, Abermain Eisteddfod, Nursing Home visits, HRIS Cultural Festival, CAPA Night, Spring Fair, Combined Choir Day and Closing Program.
Each year a concert, usually a musical, is held, giving opportunity for both individual and group performances. The JS concert provides experience in all aspects of the Performing Arts curriculum, giving the children opportunities in drama, dance and music.
There are also opportunities for JS students to receive private or small group tuition, with external tutors, in a number of musical instruments and voice. Lessons take place either during class time, lunch or before and after school. Small group violin lessons are also offered for Year 2 and 3 students with an experienced Strings Specialists.
