Co-curriculum

Music

A fully qualified music teacher cares for the music of Junior School. Every class has a music lesson each week, following the Board of Studies syllabus. Emphasis is placed on practical activities where children can learn through participation. There are two choirs in the school. They provide items for Chapel, Spring Fair, Speech Day, and the Massed Choir Day.

String ensembles, flute ensembles, and individual musical performances also provide items at school functions and at nursing home visits. Each year a concert, usually a musical, is held, giving opportunity for both individual and group performances.

Sport

All sporting activities are a vital part of the school program. Teachers encourage students in maximum participation. Some activities, such as gym, will only be part of the program if trained instructors are available either on or off campus. Our Sport Co-ordinator has the role for co-ordinating K-6 Sport (1 period a week per class) and also co-ordination of school sporting events, HRIS, and other inter-school events. The co-ordinator is a member of the HRIS Primary Sports’ Committee.

Macquarie College offers an outstanding sporting program giving students opportunities for selection through to State and National levels. Macquarie sport teams regularly attain excellent results in regional sport carnivals against other, much larger, schools in the Hunter region.

Macquarie College utilises an integrated approach to sport, where all sport classes are conducted by trained PE specialists. Students have the opportunity to compete in Athletics, Basketball, Cross Country, Equestrian events, Golf, Netball, Tennis, Touch Football, Soccer and Softball.
